A Small Gesture, A Big Thank You
I started this tradition several years ago. I put out little snacks and drinks for the delivery drivers, so they can get some protein or a yummy treat when it’s cold and they’re out late, working hard to make sure we get all of our important deliveries. I think about them often and how they're missing watching football games with their families. Possibly missing their kids' basketball games or Sunday dinner with grandparents.
Usually, I never get to see the drivers grab their little treats but I love coming home and seeing the bin empty out. Recently I happened to be outside filling up the bird feeders when a hard-working driver pulled up. He dropped his item, grabbed a bag of chips, and then looked at me and said: “Thank you so much for this. It really means a lot and it’s not often people understand how much we really need this.”
His words really made me stop and be grateful that I started doing this years ago, and it also made me realize why it works when you approach customers this way. When you really seek to UNDERSTAND the frustrations and EMOTIONS of their day to day lives, we can solve their problems in a way that others can’t who are only thinking about their bells and whistles.
I wish you all a wonderful Holiday Season, full of yummy treats and on-time deliveries!
