Give Your Sales Team a Reason to Stay
We did a remodel several years ago and bought all new appliances. If you want to feel extremely overwhelmed, just walk into an appliance store with no idea what you want. Luckily we got an amazing salesperson. He could answer every single question we had, he talked through our plans so he could help us decide what would work and what wouldn’t and helped us figure out what we really needed so we didn’t spend more than we needed to.
A few years later we moved into a new house and needed a few updates and went right back to the store to find him. We were horrified to learn he wasn’t there anymore. It felt like a totally different buying experience. Salespeople TRULY can make all the difference.
Sales managers, hold on to your top talent. Create a strong culture. Pay them well. Don’t micromanage. There is nothing more comforting to a customer than being able to call up your rep that you’ve worked with for 10 years, who can tell you exactly why you made the purchasing decisions you did, even when you can’t remember yourself, and can help you from making buying mistakes because they know your facility so well.
Nothing gives your competition a chance like getting a new sales rep. Your sales talent is sacred. Treat them accordingly.
