Cold Calls: The First 5 Seconds Are Crucial
I was talking on the phone with a potential client one time, and she said, "You do have a really great energy. I would love to work with you."
Keep in mind that I had not yet met this woman and we hadn’t even done a video call yet. She could feel my good energy over the phone and we had started to build that trust. How powerful is that?
Many people might argue that with email, social media and the internet, the phone is out of date and unnecessary, but it is still one of the most useful tools in your office. Like it or not, it will never go away and most people are using it wrong.
The BEST way to build trust and show good energy is…STOP TALKING!!!
That’s right. Introduce yourself and then be completely quiet. Don’t fill the space with a bunch of words to explain who you are, why you’re calling, you’re sorry if it’s a bad time and on and on.
Just stop talking, get a sense of their vibe and then adjust accordingly. Above all, let them get off the phone quickly if they say they’re busy! What other tips do you have?
