LONG Emails Make You Look Disorganized. Short Ones Do the Opposite.
Most emails sent today are WAY too long.
Emails longer than 100 words are significantly less likely to get read. When is the last time you got an email and it was so long you just skimmed it, telling yourself you’ll come back later and you never did? Long emails are just too daunting for the recipient.
Every time you write an email, scan it back over. Did you repeat yourself? Are you apologizing for things that don't need apologies? Are there entire sentences that could be removed and it wouldn't make a difference? Did you continue a super long email chain and just write “refer to the below” in your message? (Hint: No one is really going to spend 30 minutes reading the back and forth until they get a clear picture of the events.)
Long emails are lazy. Be ruthless. Delete until you feel uncomfortable. You'll get more replies.
